| When you are
born on the the South Side of Chicago, after they slap your bottom, you
are injected with White Sox Fever, and that is only a "booster" to an
allegiance that is instilled in the womb! True some of our Southside
brethren have gone over to the dark side and there's no explaining that
really. Suffice it to say that for many people in Chicago, the
rivalry is a tradition which provides the opportunity for good-natured
verbal jousting, and is as much about humor as it is about serious
criticism of the other team.

Southside Pride! After
years of watching teams that didn't have the kind of tenacity it takes to
be world champs, in 2005 the White Sox finally fielded a team worthy the
Southside of Chicago, the neighborhood from whence they come and which
they represent!
As a product of the Southside, the Sox have been
near and dear to my heart all of my life - even when they didn't
have it together and were playing mediocre ball at best. Memories of going
to Comiskey as a kid - back in the days when Ed Herrmann was catching
(I thought he really rocked at the time) - are among the sweetest of my
childhood! To be swept along on the journey to The Fall Classic - was the ride
of a lifetime! I had to be out of town during the final games, my
only TV access a dinky color set with a bad antenna - but I was there, oh
yes - with cell phone in hand to call my fellow Southsiders in
celebration! Whatever the future holds for the Sox - I'm there! |
